If you have ever had the delight of watching a true arborist at work you know that giant branches can seemingly float gracefully to the ground. This is the art of rigging—a complicated system of ropes, pulleys, and devices that allow the arborist team to gently lower thousands of pounds of tree material to the ground without harming anything. This is a far cry from dropping a whole tree while cutting. We had a recent example of a home owner that was concerned with keeping their very new and expensive landscaping pristine while at the same time having a tree removed. Without rigging, this tree would have easily crushed all the new growth landscaping below. But with a decade of experience in rigging, Kevin was easily able to lower each branch to the ground. Even though there was a giant stack of branches, none of the new plants were harmed. The entire yard looks the same, like a magic wand erased the tree towering over.
Kevin uses this same system all the time: to lower limbs under power lines, to safely speed line branches across a yard to a safe landing, to gently guide branches away from a roof line. All of these cases and more are reasons to use rigging while doing tree work. With some of the gear the crew is able to hold up thousands of pounds with one person on the other end of the rope. These systems save lives and properties.

Kevin utiliza este mismo sistema constantemente: para bajar ramas situadas bajo líneas eléctricas, para desplazar ramas rápidamente y de forma segura a través del jardín hasta un punto de aterrizaje seguro, y para guiar con suavidad las ramas alejándolas del tejado. Estas situaciones, entre otras, justifican el uso de sistemas de aparejo (rigging) al realizar trabajos de arboricultura. Gracias a ciertos equipos, el equipo de trabajo puede sostener cargas de miles de libras con una sola persona manejando el otro extremo de la cuerda.
